Come Join Us!

The Shen lab will open its door in Jan 2024 in the Bioengineering department at University of Pennsylvania. We welcome trainees from a variety of backgrounds including bioengineering, chemistry, biochemistry and biophysics, metabolism, computational biology, and related fields. Email Yihui if you are interested in imaging and metabolism!

We aim to build an inclusive environment to support our trainees. We encourage students from underrepresented groups to apply to our BE graduate program. We also welcome students from other graduate programs. Don’t hesitate to talk to us if interested!

NEWS

The Shen lab welcomes its first rotation student, Ricardo Velázquez Aponte! Ricardo is now a first-year PhD student in the BMB graduate group. He is originally from Puerto Rico, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Biotechnology at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez. He is very interested in leveraging biochemical and biophysical techniques to study how metabolic disruption is associated with diseases. As hobbies, he enjoys cooking, baking, and practicing violin.

We are very excited to welcome Dr. Hoang Dinh to join the lab as a postdoctoral fellow! Hoang is originally from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He came to us from Prof. Costas Maranas’s group at Penn State, where he developed computational genome-scale models for metabolic engineering of yeasts. He is interested in systems and computational biology. His next focus is on regulation and metabolism of eukaryotic/mammalian cells. He enjoys playing video games and going for a walk in his free time.

We installed our mass spec with our science partner in crime the Bartman Lab @ Penn Medicine 🙌🙌🙌 Ready to make great data out of it 🤩!! (Photo credit to @CarolineBartman)
